Light fabrication engineers work with lightweight metals such as stainless steel and aluminium. Light fabricators typically make things such as handrails, balustrades and bench tops and play a key role in manufacturing boats and many ancillary components used within the marine industry.

Entry Requirements

  • New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • At least 16 years of age (unless early leaving exemption (ELX) has been granted).
  • While not a prerequisite, it is recommended that people enrolling in this programme hold the National Certificate in Education Achievement (NCEA) Level 2 or equivalent.
  • People enrolling in this programme must hold a relevant position in an engineering or manufacturing organisation and have signed an apprenticeship training agreement.
