Mechanical Engineering (Advanced) Level 5

This programme aims to develop highly skilled tradespeople with advanced technical skills and supervisory capabilities. It prepares graduates to significantly contribute to business success and competitiveness in mechanical engineering, construction, manufacturing, fabrication, refrigeration, air conditioning, and mechanical building services.

Graduates will gain advanced technical knowledge and leadership skills applicable in various engineering contexts. The learning occurs within the workplace and is intended for individuals who have completed a Level 4 trade qualification in a related discipline and aim to enhance their technical and operational skills within their chosen field.

They will be prepared for roles such as Senior Tradesperson, Foreperson, Specialist Engineer, Supervisor or Workshop Supervisor, Process Champion, Project Manager, Maintenance Engineering Supervisor, Leading Hand, Team Leader, Site Supervisor/Manager, and Technical Advisor.

Entry Requirements

Prospective learners must hold a relevant Level 4 qualification in mechanical engineering or a related field and be employed in an engineering role. The programme requires an employer’s commitment to support the learner’s training and development.

Learners must hold New Zealand citizenship or be a New Zealand resident.
