This apprenticeship teaches you how to install, maintain, and repair refrigeration and air conditioning systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. You’ll understand how mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant systems work together and become skilled at diagnosing and solving issues safely and efficiently.

What you'll learn

  1. Environmental and safety standards
  2. Installation, commissioning, servicing, and repair
  3. Diagnosing electrical, refrigerant, and mechanical faults
  4. Safe handling of refrigerants (including natural refrigerants)
  5. Pipework, brazing, and system component fabrication
  6. Control systems and performance testing
  7. Reading and interpreting RAC technical drawings

requirements

  1. NZ Citizen or Permanent Resident
  2. 16+ years old (or ELX approved)
  3. NCEA Level 2 recommended but not essential
  4. Must be employed in a relevant role (we can help with this)
  5. Signed apprenticeship training agreement
